Where can you give birth?

In Belgium the choice of where you birth your baby is yours. The place that is best for you and your baby depends on your own individual situation and how your pregnancy is progressing. Take time to explore all the options and discuss them fully with your caregivers. You can decide to give birth:

  • in hospital – hospitals in Belgium are well-equipped for both routine and complex births, offering various levels of care. Many hospitals provide birthing suites, pain relief options, and specialized support. For more guidance you might also like to read about how to choose a hospital

  • at home - if you are seeking a natural birthing experience in a comfortable, familiar environment, a home birth may be an option. With the support of an Independent Midwife, home births are safe for healthy pregnancies and allow for a personalized birth experience.

  • in a birth centre - A birth centre combines the relaxed environment of home with professional care and facilities. These centers are run by midwives and provide a natural birthing experience without the clinical feel of a hospital. Birth centers offer unique and supportive care from midwives and are suited for healthy women and their babies who might not feel comfortable birthing their baby at home or in hospital.
